American Customs Duty

on Beans

The American authorities im- posed a customs duty of one per cent. per lb. on cooked or salted beans, according to No. 199 of the American tarif, bat merchants lodged a complaint with the Cont against the impost, taking the -view that such beans, coming: within the purview of No. 606 of the Tariff, should go duty free.
