Increase in Japanese Exports.
The Hochs observes with spa- cial satisfaction the tendency of increase of exports to China, Italy and the United States. Trade with Chins declined on account of the beytast movement, but there are eigas of revival sinos: the war in Europe started. There is no trace of any bad effects of | the war on Japan's trade relations, and the paper rejoices to feel that the country is entering the year with very bright prospects for Pinafores with Embrai its foreign trade.

Shanghai Place Goods. Shanghai, Jan: The piece goods market in usually consider. 275ed to be a sort of barometer in- dicating China trade conditions generally, and the general lose of this most sensitive of markets this week may be described cheerful and strong. Piece goods merchants do not seem to be worry- ing about reports and’ramocks of impending troubles, and orders are coming in ucet salia- factorily from Tientsin, which is usually a sensitive cookie, and from the River ports of Hankow and Changsha, which sections have had good crope. The tomen of the market last week wasbright, but this week it is even brighter, and to use the words of the piece goods manager of one bongit is a good market, indeed.” Some cancellations of orders are repark ed from Szechuan, which indicate that deslers in that provines (278 exercising care and that, they are nervously guarding against the possibility that the outbreak in Yoznan may spread to neigh- bouring provinces, but on the whale, and considering that this is holiday week, the prevailing feeling is one of confidence. Stocks are reported to be held, in some quarters, pending the far- ther higher advares that the scre to come, and arrivals from Home are small. There is a story in circulation to the eff er that the sunken N.Y.K: Yasaka Meru cer- ried 10,000 pieces, but the figures ared cozfirmation. Yaenfong At this suction on Thursday some 1,300 packages were offered, which is about 150 more than last weet, and orders were brisk under steadily advancing prices. Grega were up four mace, whites si made, and biseks three quarter made, and erally speaking higher prices Losus on Mortgage of House Pzc-revailed all round.
