The granting of two Victoria Crosses has been gazetiod. Private Thomas Kenny, of the 13th Darhams, was, at La Mousseis on November 11, patrolling in the fog when his lieutenant was shot in the thigh. He crawled for an hour with the officer on his back, trying to find his own trenches, under heavy enemy fire, and firmly refused to leave the officer. Eventually he reached a ditch which he recognised, obtained assistance and saved the lieutenant, despite German machine-gun, rifle fire and bomba.“

Corporal J. L Dawson, of the Engineere, was on October 13 in the Hobenzallern Redoubt daring a British gas attack, when he fully exposed himself to very heavy enemy fire in order to clear ous the infantry from the gas-laden trenches. He rolled three leaking escape, and thus saved many from being gassed.
