vote of credit. Mr. H. J. Tennant, Under Becretary for War, stated English, Nellore, 18th Nov. that the daily loss in the Dardanelles from May to October was 796, but most of the 90,000 were sick and of these eighty per cent. had returned to duty. The two gonerals who were principally responsible for the Suvla Bay operations had been brought Home, Sir Edward Carson asserted that the last war councils he attended he emphati- cally decided, on the advice of military advisers, that it was too late to send troops to Serbia and protesting strongly left the Cabinet If this were controverted he asked for the production of the memoranda submitted to the Cabinet. Mr. Bonar Law and Mr. Lloyd George added that three weeks later after the visits of M. Millerand and Gen. eral Joffre the decision was reversed. Mr. Asquith deprecated die- cassion and denied that there was any avoidable delay in sending Shangbai, trogna to Serbia, There was never any decision not to send troops in case of mead if military and political-grounds rendered it desirable. Straits, Mr. Bonar Law declined to answer Sir Edward Carson but the latter's reference to his memorandum bad been interpreted as mean- ing that they galloped up to the fence together. Sir Edward Carcon took it that he refused. He denied that there was ever any sugges tion that he should follow Sir Edward Carson's course. If there was any decision for which he was unable to accept responsibility he would zaturally do so but that condition had not arisen. Mr. Bonar Law replying to criticisms on the Government which, he said was not excessively popular, admitted that the Coalition had not succeed- ed to well as he had hoped but there was no alternative. The result of the addition to the Cabinet of forceful personalities not under party allegiance to the Prime Minister, had not conduced to the esme amooth working as in party government and, he hoped that Straite-Per MANAPOURI, 19th Nov. 11 the appointment of a smaller executive body would bring an Swatow, Amny & Foochaw-Por HAI- improvement. He was sure the House and the country would give the experiment a chance. Regarding news, a member of the Cabinet wae going over to try and improve the arrangements,
