November 6, 3.40a.m. There is much speculation regarding Earl Kitchener's departure from the War Office. The Timer affera "oxplanatory considerations not without authority," and says that it may be taken for granted) that Earl Kitchener's mission is altogether different in character from his previous visits to France. Otherwise he would not need a substitute at the War Office. It should be remembered that Lord eorraspondence and one collection of Let- Darby's scheme freed Earl Kitchener from the business of reorait-ters from the Pillar Boxes. ing and that he would thus be at liberty to divert his attention to other matters of which the most important was the war in the Near! East of which Earl Kitohener had first-hand knowledge. There- fore it was not anastaral now that he should devote himself entirely, in consultation with the Allies, to a settlement of that tangled pro- blem. The rumour that he would take command of the ermy in France was entirely without foundation. The newspaper associates | Novara Mr. Asquith's assumption of the duties of the War Office with a reorganisation of the higher direction of the war which is now proceeding.
THE KING AND WAR LORD.
November 6, 5.35 p.m. The latest atstament purporting to bo authoritative is that Borl Kitchener will be back at the War Office next west; and intends to remain at the War Office until the end of the war. It was not con- templated that he should visit the King. The summons to the Palace was entirely unexpected. His Majesty, who is feeling a little better, desired a chat and the conversation was entirely general.
RESIGNATION STORY AGAIN DENIED.

WHY. WAS THE GLOBE RAIDED?
November 7, 4.30 a.m. The seizure of the Globe is the most drastio official step against a daily paper since the outbreak of the war. No reason is given, but it is presumed that it was the result of the Globe's aneertion on Friday that Earl Kitchener had resigned, while the paper on Satur- day displayed posters with the words: "Kitchener and Politicians, The Globe reasserta." The police did their work most thoroughly, seizing all copies of Friday's and Saturday's issues, cutting off the electric current for the printing machines and removing the stereo- type plates. No arrest was made.
