Foreign Shipping Dangerous to British Columbia.
The question of foreign ships trading in the constwise business of Canada-and foreign ships really means, as things are at present, Norwegian abipa-may, at firat blush, appear not to affect this, Canada's Pacifio nonboard, but only the Atlantio renbaard Poe or are leays the Vancouver World. As a | matter of fact, viewed in the light of the fatore-one might say, the immediate fature-the matter is ene of vital interest to Van- conver and other British Colum- bia ports, as well as to those porta on the Atlantic coast which bave already lost most of their ship- ping to the foreigner.. Moreover, the matter is intim- ately bound up with this question of British Columbia-owned and built shipping, which is at pro- | sont occupying considerable space in the local prees, and which was the sabject of some consideration by the Board of Trade here last evening.
"The steamers are all fitted throughout with electric light and have accommodation for a limited number of saloon-passengers. All steamers carry a duly qualified surgeon. Cargo taken at through rates to all porta in Netherlands-India and Australis."

Panama Canal trade through the canal from one Canadian port to another is coast wise trade: One shipmaster mentioned that ho had seen a statement in an English newspaper to the effect that the British Board of Trade wad considering the matter, and he also pointed out that Adatralis and New Zealand had protected themselves against such a pos- -- sibility as had overwhelmed Canadian shipping on the east coast and threatened on the west.
