Shipping and Trade of Tsingtao. Since December inat and up to the end of last month 285 ships, with a total tonnage of 306,585 tons, entered the port of Tsingtao. Excluding December, 1914, when only four steamers (of a total tone, mage of 3,119 entered) the average number per month was 49, r8 presenting an average tonnage of 51,007. Of the 285 vessels, 264 wers Japanese and the remaining 21 British. Clearanose during the same period numbered: 282 · (262 Japanese and 20 British). The value of the trade daring the same period was Taels 6,440,203, divided as follows; imports 4,688,- 398 taele, exports 1.771,805 taels. The Customs revende for the period was as follows:-

Shipbuilding Activity in Japan.

The United States Consul-Gen- eral at Yokohama, says the New York Maritime Register reports as follows: Great activity is being shown at all Japanese ship-yards, even the smallest, keeping their. employess at work day and night. At the Mitsu Bishi yard in Nagasaki fourebips with a tonnage of 7,300 each and two of 3,700. tone each are under construction. At the Kobe yards of the same company one 1,800-ton and two 5,300-ton vessels are on the ways. la the last-named city the Kawasaki Jards are building one 1,700-ton, one" 3,000-ton, and three 7,300-ton boste. Other important orders being executed at the different shipyards are: Osaka Iron Foundry. Osaka-ix 17,300-tou, ose 5,000-ton, twelve 3,200-ton, one 1,100-fon; Urasa Dockyard Co., Uraga-four 2,200 ton vessels; Faji Nagata yard one 2,000-ton ship; Harimo yards, Kobe two 1,100 ton vessels.
