July 20, 11.05 p.m. In the House of Commons Mr. Lloyd George said that during 9.10 p.m. the past month munitions workers had focreased by 40,000, nearly half of whom were skilled. A hundred thousand voluntary mani- tions workers had been enrolled, the bulk belonging to the engineer. ing and shipbuilding trades. Sixteen National factories had been established in different parts of the country, under National control, and this would lead to an enormous increase in the output of shells. However, in consequence of conferences in France, where he had met the French Minister of Munitions and where distinguished French and British artillery officers had compared notes regarding the lesson of the campaign, it had been decided to embark upon a Dew programme which would very seriously tax Great Britain's engineer ing resources for some monthe. We had decided to meet the D'Aguilar Radio Telegraph Station: gigantic demanda nod to establish ten large Goverṇment arsenale, and he hoped that the equipment for these would be ready in a fe weeks, to enable us to equip our armies in such a way that even the best armies in Europe would be unable to claim superiority in the slightest respect "

He mentioned that the Inven. Branch Offices will be open from 9 to tions Branch of the Munitions Ministry had been established on similar lines to Lord Fisher's Inventions Branch at the Admiralty. Mr. Lloyd George concinded by remarking that all connected with munitions were wo,king their hardest. He could not give details showing the progress of the output, but all he could say was that when the present development was completed we would be able to supply abella which would not merely enable us to support our mer but would enable them to cleave their way to victory.

ENEMY OFFICERS CAPTURED.

July 29, 1.30 am.

A Bome communique states that at Carnis, under cover of a fog, the enemy attempted an attack which was promptly repulsed. Our Alpiniste stormed a number of trenches on the front at Palpiccolo. We spent a day on the Curso Plateau strengthening the important positions captured on the 26th ipatant, but the Centre made further progress, capturing a number of strongly held trenches, thus straightening cur line.

1

It appears that 102 enemy officers were captured on the 28th,
