Suez Canal Company. The report of the Suez Canal Company, presented at the annual general meeting of the sharehol dere, held at Paris on 14th inst., states that the total receipts for 1914 amounted to f.125,121,237, showing a falling off of f.4,804, 711, as against the total receipts of 1913. The falling off in receipts seems to be less than might have been feared. From Ang. 1 to Deo:31 last commercial traffic through the Canal fell by nearly 40 per

depreciation of revenue from transit was much less than pro portionate, owing to the compen sation derived from military* traffic. The loss suffered by the company during the first five months of the war amounted to about 1.6,500,000, but this decrease was further reduced - owing to the surplus of the first seven months of the year, and stande finally at £4,500,000, Since the beginning of this year the decrease has been greater, ~ and represents about 35 percent, 23rd July at 2 p.m. not falling off upon the corres 9th Aug.atlla.m. ponding period of 1914. statistics are as follows-In 1914 4,802 ships of a total net tonnage of 19,409,495 tone passed the Osnal, showing a reduction upon 1913 of 624,389 tone. The commercial shipping showed decrease of nearly 3,000,000 tons. On the other hand, warships and trapeports showed an increase of 501 transits and 2,250,000 fons. The decrease i commercial shipping is to a great extent accounted for by the reduction of Austrian and German ships, amoanting to 1:460,000 tone.
