Japanese Shipping.
"A considerable slackening of the Japanese shipping trade is reported.. Taingtao especially is Bufferer, Japanage steamers very often leaving that port with only. a third of their full cargo, and vessels plying between Bombay and Caloutta; also some ships of the European service, seem to have left off calling at Hongkong, the result being huge cargoes accumulated at Japanese porta. Tientsin is the only place that is scarcely affected, bath homeward and outward trips shipping fall shipments.Exchange.
Japanese Coal Wanted. Since the Sino-Japanese nego- tiations were concluded; a keen demand has arisen in China for Japanese coal. The shipments to Chinese ports last month totalled 95,000 tons, which shows the remarkable increase of 18,000 tons over the previous month. During the first three months of the year shipments only amounted to 50,000 tons, per month, whereas last month to Shanghai alone there was 30,000 tons, for Hankow 8,000 tons, for Canton 9,500 tons. for Ningpo 1800 tons, while 41,000 tons went to Hongkong and 500, tous to Tsingtao.. of 216,671 tons which had been lying idle will now be able to participate in the world's com merce. Many of the enemy vessele detained in the Italian ports are fine liners. The largest are the Albert, of 10,500 tons, which are Moltke, of 12,000 tone, the Konig At Jonon, and the Bayern, of 8,000 tons, at Naples. Arrange ments with German shipping companies were made by the London Chamber of Commerce at the beginning of the year for obtaining the delivery of British cargo from the German liners. A special licence enabling mer chants to make the necessary paymente was granted by the British Government. Such cargo as has not been released would now presumably be the subject of special terms.
