According to the San Francisco Chronicle of May 9, Dr. W. A." MoVean, the well known Los Banca (Philippines) physician, was the only man injured in the grounding of the Great Northern linor Minnesota on April 11. In shows an interview with a representa

tive of the Chronicle, Dr. MoVean: saya: "It was fortunate that no oge was seriously injured. I had about as much of an accident as any one and received a fractured rib from being thrown against a table in the smoking room.”

One year ago, when two new vessels were placed upon the Iohang- Chungking river service we were told that within two years there would be twenty steamers of all kinds plying between these two ports. To-day, a new vessel, small it is true, made her maiden trip up, and the Ch'in Ki has about half completed" her" first voyage to Kiating. She is the firat steamer to make this trip, but we are assured there are more. to follow her, Chinese-like the company hava had an office in Kinting for the last year back. She had a rather rooky trip up, atriking "terra firma" at one place and spending a few days there for repairs. Her upriver trip has not been fat, but she has left room for improvement in her schedule.
