A Press Bureau despatch from Headquarters at the Dardanel les, dated June 22 Bys:-After twenty-for hours of continuous fighting substantial success was:achieved, on a tack by General Gourand resulting in the capture of a considerable portion of the Turkish trenches. As already resorted, the battle of the 4th and 6th resulted in a good advance o the centre, to which, however, neither the right nor the left were able to conform, owing to the strength of the Turkish positions on their frout and Banks, General Gourand, at 4.30 on the morning of the 21st, began to attack the formidable works running along the Kereyendere and, by noon, the second French division had stormed and capture all the Turkish first and second line trenches opposite their front, including the Swatow, famona Haricot. redoubt with its subsidiary maze of entanglements and communication trenches, On their right the first French Filippino division, after fierce fighting, alao took the Turkish trenches op- Shanghai, posite their front, but a heavy counter-attack forced them back. Again this division attacked; again it stormed the position, and again it was driven out. The bombardment of the Turkish loft was resumed, British guns and howitzers again aiding the French artillery; and a fiue attack was launched about six in the evening. Six hundred yards of the Tarkish fret line of trenches were taken and, despite a heavy counter-attack during the night and especially at 3.30 in the morning, all the captured positions are still in our hande. The enemy lost most heavily. One Turkish battalion advanceing to re-inforce was spotted by an aeroplane and practical- ly wiped out by the 75s before it could scatter. The elan and con- tempt of danger shown by the young French drafts of the last contingent, averaging twenty years of age, was much admired. The French battleship St. Louis did excellent service against the Asiatic batteries during the fighting..
