Repairing Poyang Dyke When Hau Shih-kuang, Com missioner for repairing the flooded dike at Poyang on the Yellow River, asked for fands to carry on the engineering work, the Pre- sident instructed the Ministry of Finance" send $500,000, and the Chihli Governor to send $800,000." The estimate made by the Director-General of the 'con-- servancy work of the Yellow River provides for a toll expenditure of $5,376,580. How ever the dykes in Paoshanhaien. have not been repaired for many years, and some calamity may happen in that district. I was struck by the danger of a breach along the broken dykes.
