TURKISH ATTACKS REPULSED WITH LOSS.

June 17, 3.15 pm. The Press Bureau anconaces that at the Dardanelles last night a party of the enemy led by a German officer made a gallant attick on trenches held by a British Brigade. A few of the enemy were killed on the parapet but the majority were killed before reaching the trenches, including the officer.
The Turks also attacked the trenches we captured on June 12. The attack was preceded by strong bombing parties.
We were forced back thirty yards until daybreak when the vacated trench was enfiladed by out machine guns. The Dublin Fusiliers attacked with the bayonet and reoccupied it. They found two hundred dead Turks in the trench..
Our casualties were very slight.

June 16, 10.00 p.m. Field-Marahal Sir John French in a balletin says:- We captured last evening the German front line of trenches eastward of Fostubert, along a mile front, but failed to hold them during the night against a strong counter-attook.
We attacked early to-day the enemy's positions northward of Hooge, and occupied the whole first line of a thousand yards and also part of the second line. We passed 157 prisoners to the rear by noon.
A German counter-attack was repulsed with heavy less.
THE GERMAN ARMY FACING RUSSIA.
June 16, 11.20 p.m. According to Renter'a correspondent at Petrograd military critics estimate the German fcro:s operating on the Eastern front to total forty-five Army Corpe, as well as twenty-six Austrian Army Corps. Beuter's correspondent at Amsterdam reports that General Mackensen haa telegraphed the Kaiser to the effect that he will recapture Lemberg before July 1.

We have progressed on the Upper Fecht, capturing at Braunkopf 340 prisoners and a vast quantity of stores, rifles and half a million rounds of ammunition.

In the House of Commons the Hon. E. S. Montagn indicated that the Government would find some means of taxing war profits. It was something repagnant, that there should be individual firms who were making more than they did in 1914 without any special taxation, and when everybody was asked to make sacrifices.
