BIRTH.
The Battle Season.
For some reason of reasons unknown, the latter balf of June isoariously full of battle anniver Божіен. Naseby (1045) and Marengo (1800) were both fought on June 14. On the 16th we have Dettingen (1743) and Quoitre Bras (1815); on the 17th, Bunker's Hill (1775)-on the 18th, Waterloo; (1815); on the 21st, Vittoria (1813) and, on the 24th, Bannockburn (1314). In addition to these, we have the outbreak of the 1812 war between Britain and the United States on June 18, the sinking of the Alabama- (186) on the 10.b, the Black Hole of Osloutis (1750) on the 20th, and the Massacre of Cawn- Fore (1857) on the 28th. All these anniversaries will hardly be regarded with favour by our sup- erstitions friends who look upon next Friday se a certain date for a crushing victory for British arms, inasmuch as it marks the centenary of Waterto; for, by the same reasoning, we should probably be in for a lerriño bom- mering on the snniversary of Bannockburn unless, of course, the Scots should be plaaning a victory of their own for the 24th.
