The Match Export Trade.

Since the commencement of the Japar-China negotiations, the match trade with China has been very doll, although small quinti- tice have been shipped to Spub China. The Mitsui Bassan Kai-ba "received advice to stop. further shipments to North China on the 6th.

It may be said that the match export trade, so far ge North China is concerned, is now at standstill. However, Chiness. exp: riera ir Kawaguchi, Osaka, anticipate a large demand in the near future and have begun to buy up phcephorus matches Accordingly quotations Eave! advanced from Y 22 to Y24. There in also less de mard for matches. 'in India and Singapore.

Trade

with these places has been very brisk for some time past, but a reaction has now ret in. This is explained by the fact that stocks in India and the Straits fre ample, and, the rainy season is

The Cotton Trade.

Meaare. Robert Barbour Ind Brother, Ld..in the course of their monthly market report state:***** The features of the month have been the irrej ressible buoys ney of cotion, American rising over id. and Egyptian ld., and an advance proportionately greater of the manufactured article owing to the increased prices of flour, faring, itema coal, Iraiber, and other which enter into the cost of pro- dustios. Though quite early there was some apprehension of s slide in values in the event of the raw material being made cent 6- band, the declaration of the inten- tion of the Allies to prevent com. modities of any kind from reach- ing Germany was a'lowed to pata without exerting any weakening influence. Even the huge semi- final gir ning returns to the end of February figuring a orop, includ izg linters, cf 18,846,000 half considerably over millica bales in excess of the previous record out-tarn of 1911-12, failed to exercise any more sobering influence. In the face of a tal available supply of more than 10 million bales, in- cluding last season's carry-over, the inherent strength displayed became something of a pheno menon under present wor condi- tions. Numerous reasons were adduced in explanation, but they still seemed to leave something to be desired for a conclusive summing up in full justification of the advance. Meantime the oversee consuming market failed to respond with any signs of conviction, and the hardening tendency, though unrelieved by anticipation of material reaction in the near future, failed to atima- late demand. China was for frem prodigal with its requirements, though holding out hopes of better things to come, and the minor cutleie-mostly went their own unconcerned way unlese subjected to some specially at- tractive form of temptation.
