Bodrces,

April 14, £613,000 in bar gold. April 14, ££818,000 in foreign gold coin.

April 14, £360,000 ic sovereigns reloased from mic- cellánecu: sources.

Withdrawale were made as under:-

April 9, £287,000 'n (overeigns] set aside for #ocenat of Argentine.

April 10, 500,000 in sovereigns) set aside for miscellaneous pur- розев.

April 12, £40,000 in rovereigns. ect aside for account of Argez tina. April 13, £120,000 in Lovereigns set aside on a 'court of Argentina.

April 14, £149,000 in sovereigns set aside or so ount of Argentina.

April 14, £10,000 in foreign gold coin.

Daring the week the net in- crease was £1,984,000.

The output of the Transvaal for March, 1915 was £3 202 514, as acmi ared with $2,015,346 for March, 1014, and £2,872,406 for February, 1815.

With reference to silver, the circular states that the undertone remains pool, though very little animation is apparent upon the auriace.

Contin ntal demand labeen lets in evidence, and nquiry fron the Eat very sluggish. Indeed, this week's In linn shipments are exceptionally small.

Statistice ehowing the import of silver from the United Statea of America during the first three montbe of 1815 and also of 1914 will be found to be of interest.

Imports. 1915.

1014.. January... 8,058,225, 6,670,861 February 7 938,693 4,801,175

·Marob...... 5,268,737 5,311,613

Total 21,269,555 18,085,449

The wide discrepancy between the two series of figures is very noticeable, the total importa dar-| ing the first quarter of this year being 25 per cent. larger than those for the same period of 1914, but it should be remembered that during the first three months of 1914 the Syndicate which took over the huge stock of the defunct) Indian Specie Bank was known to be realising its stock, and this fact probably deterred the United States from selling freely.

Mexioan supplies, which, as a rale travel via New York, and are in the above totals, have been much reduced cwing to distur bances in that country, and it is therefore remarkable that the total for the first quarter of this year should nevertheless" be 10 per cent, more than a quarter of the total imports from the United States of America during 1914.

Imports from Canada during! the to periods contrasted show very little variation. The totala were 4,133,619 oz. und 4,449,947 oz. for 1915 and 1914 respectively.

Daving the first quarter of this year, the total imports into this country from abroad were 26,105.184 oz., as compared with 22,449,040 during the first quar- ter of 1914. In spite of this, the price has been on an ascending scale, even though a very great shrinkage in trade demand has taken place us a consequence of the War, and the fact suggests that the market as a whole stande, or a sound footing.

An Indian Currency Return for April 7 gives the following. details, in lakhs of Rupees:- Netse in Circulation..:: 80,89 Reserve in Silver Coin 31,60 Gold Coin and Bullion 7,64 Gold in Eugland 7,65

The stock in Bombay consiste of 8,600 bare as compared with 7,500 last week.

A shipment of 345,000 oz. has been made from San Francisco.to. Hongkong during the week,
