„Italy's Aspirations.
The question of the moment is, Will Italy join in the war? A question of equal interest in, What good reason has Italy for abandoning her neutrality which she has rigorously maintained for the part nine months? Have ing regard to the telegrams which have been reaching ne lately there can be no doubt of the existence of a strong national desire to come into the struggle on the side of the Entente Powers,
notwithstand ing the fact that Italy bags hitherto deemed it to be in her national interests to be in alliance with Germany and Austro-Hung- ary. For Italy the outlook muat have changed greatly since the beginning of the war, and the telegrams have given us bat little information which throws any light upon this change. We have been told of the failure of the diplomatio negotiations with Austro-Hangary for anbatantial concessions on the Adriatic, and it has transpired that Italy bas recently denounced the Triple. Alliance, though there is little to show that this is entirely due to Austria's failure to come to an agreement with Ialy.
