Her deadweight oerry ing capacity is about 15,500, and the pumping machinery with which she is equipped is con Tatruated to handle 1200 tons of oil per hour. She is the last of the 19 vessels ordered by the Eagle Oil Transport Company in 1912. This order constitutesa record, not only for the number of vessela contracted for at one time, bat aleo for the largely increased ton- nage of this type of ship. Of the 19 vessels 17 are built on the Isherwood system of ship con etraction. Ten of them with a gross registered tonnage of about 10,000 tons and a deadweight carrying capacity of about 15,600 tons, and the remaining seven |About 6500 grom tons, with a carrying capacity of about 9200. tone. The leherwood system of longitudinal framing, which has practically superseded the ordin- ary method for the building of tank steamers, continues to make remarkable progress. Among shipowners who have had ex- perience of the system the belief is gaining a firm hold that it will eventually supersede the ordinary method for most types of vessels. In this system the structural" principlesare completely reversed. The closely spaced frames extend et from the stem of the ship to the stern,instead of from keel to deck, and while the structural strength in anupright directionisequal tothat afforded by the ordinary method, the strength longitudinally is very considerably increased.
