British Consular Report. From the British Consular re- port (by Mr. Vice-Conant Jobs) on the trade of Bangkok for tha Fear ended 31st Marab, 1914, which has just been issued:-
The combined sterling value of the import and export rade of Bangkok for the year was £15;- 891,255, an increase of £3,910,- 68 over 1912-13, and of £2,284 091 over the record year of 1910-11.
?
Trade with the British Empire, was £11,500,497, or 72.7 per cent. of the total import and export trade, an increase of nearly 7 per cent, as compared with the pre- vious year. This may be almost entirely accounted for by the in- crease of £3 394,730, or 65 per i cent. in the trade between this f country and Hongkong and Sings- pore which this year amounted to 68,584,881. I would, however, suggest that the above increase is due not to any normal growth of trade between Sism and these colonia”, which are mainly distri buting centres, but rather to a change of method in the compila-| tion of the Customs report, the figures in which are now intended to reveal commercial exchanges and not spheres of production.

"It is stated on the authority of the Canadian Treasury that the Bank of England holding at Ottawa is now about £18,000 000 in valuo, and that the recent large receipts by New York from Canada only included about £3,000,000 out of the stook beld on account of the Bank of England; the remainder waD draws from the stocks held by Usnadian Banka."
1
With reference to silver, the circular states thet" the tone hos bontinued fairly good," although prices bare been rather erratio.
The irregularity of prices is: shicfly owing to an absence of continuity on orders from the In- Hian Bazaare. The drop to 233d. erested a demand from India, but orders began to fall off as the price rallied, and the proximity of Easter did not improve matters. "China has been a buyer'inter- mittently, and Continental orders have been again in evidence.
An Indian Currency Return or March 22 gave details as fol- owa-in lakhs of Rupees.
