A Japanese Steamer Sold. Another Japanese steamer, the Hokkai Maru, owned by the Taisho Marine Transportation Co., which was purchased from Glasgow owners for £35,000 and registered at Dairen, has been, resold to British buyere for, £55,000.

The largest ship with which the British Corporation was ee sociated during last year was the Tuscania, a ship of 14,348 tone, fitted with geared turbines, while two 23-knot geared turbine vOR- sels, the Princess Margaret and the Princesa Irene, have been built for the Canadian Pacific Company's Vancouver trade.
British V. German Shipping. Thé economic pressure in Ger- mady is continuing satisfactorily. Out of 20,500,000 tons of British shipping 20,122,100 are plying to-day, or 97 per cent, wheress out of 5,000,000 German tonnage only 549,000 are plying, and it is estimated that only ten ships are at present carrying on Ger man commerce on the seas. On an average nearly 100 ships a day of over 300 tons arrived and left British ports, and we are not only carrying on our own bani. ness effectively but are applying. special restrictions on cartain vital commodities necessary to

Interned German Steamers. According to the New York Times there are sixty-six Ger- man and Austrian merchant ves-" rela laid up in the ports of the United States or its island posses- sions. Their gross tonnage is 518,706 and net tonnage 297,760, tons. Fifty-five of these ships fly the German flag, while eleven are Austrian vessels. Thirty of the abips are at New York, night at Boston, four each at New Or leans and Baltimore, three at Philadelphis and eight at Hono lulu. The Hamburg-American Line owns twenty-eight of the ships, and the North German Lloyd fifteen.
Oil Carrying Ships, Presiding at the annual meet ing at Glasgow of the British Corporation for the Survey and Registry of British Shipping, Mr. Robert Clark said that probably the most novel shipbuilding de velopment last year was expres sod in the three oil-carrying steamers, Aztec, Breifond and Ricardo A.
