Freight.
Merers, Wheelock and Co.'s re- port for the fortnight ended April 20 states that the situation in the homeward freight market to Europe is unclianged and "a big demand for space still există, particularly for Genos whicb, however, shippers are unable to obtain so there is no tonnage being, berthed for that port. at present. As was only" to be ex- pepted, rates to America, via the Pacific bare been increased by the Pacific Conference in sym- patby with the general advance in rates which has taken place all the world over and rates on various commodities have gone up in varying degrees from 25 per cent. to 100 per cent, in some cases on the ocean proportion of the freight. The rate on all kinda of seeds to New York via Suez and Panama Canale has been ad- vanced to 100/- per ton plus the Euroharge of 10 per cent. Trade on the coast is as brick as over and rates are still on the increase, the Newchwang-Canton rate bay. ing gone up to 10 cents a picul,! whilst the Saigon-klengkong bas also gone up to the same figure;. these two quotations nie alwaye fairly indicative of the whole China Consting trade, and must certainly be considered very e. tis- fotory at the moment. The next cargo-boats on this besth are 38 "follow:-Marseilles and London, Kaloma (May 2), Nellore (Nay 6), Miyazaki Miru (May 9) and Kitano Maru (May 16); Londen; Koemun (May 6); Glengyle (May 20); Liverpool, Laomedon (May 15); New York via Suez, Iudradeo May 1) and Tascam Prince (May 23); New York vin Panema, B. ton Castle (May 6) and Inverclyde (May 10), ".
