Jo this table the figures of 1914 are based, for the most part, upon returns for eleven macthe wilb estimates for the final months of the year. The total production fr the year has thus declined by £1,472,874, or 159 per cent, which is a little less than the de c:ease in the Teanavasi cutput. Increases in Rhodesia and the United States are set against de creases in Mexico, Europe, and Siberia. The gold production, of Mexico continues to suffer from the internal troubles of the coun- try, and is £1,000,000 less than in 1912. The Price of Tin.

#

The embargo upon the export of tin bas naturally result ed in a sharp decline in the price of the commodity. It is under. stood that licencea for the export of the metal will be granted, but only under such restrictions as will ensure that it does not pass into the enemy's bands, and it is to be presumed that while the Orderin Council only applies to the United Kingdom, similar measures bate been taken to preventexrm ta from the Straits Settlements and other British Possessions. As is pointed out by a writer in a financial journs, the effect of the war on the tin market has been raiber curious.
