Loadon Port Extension. To relieve the congestion in the port the Port of London Author ities have sanctioned the provision of a large amount of extra accom modation at their docks. Two shade on the north side of the South West India Dook, two at the Tilbury Docks, and three ad-" ditional floors to No. 1 Warehouse, West India Dook, are to be con- structed. The total aren of the' floor new space will be 350,000 sq. ft., equal to a storage capacity of 35,000 tons, and the cost to the Authorities will be 500,000. The whole of the work will be finished within two mouths. Mens anks The Stranding of the Bengloe.
The report is tested of an official inquiry, held into the stranding of the atesmer Benglos, of Leith, when bound from Cebu to Lon- don. The Bangloe asiled from Cebu on September 11 last with s cargo of copra and auger, and stranded on the Moyune Shost on September 13. There was no indication that the vessel was approaching shoal water. Several observations were taken while the vessel was on the reef, and the position was found by the master to be 8° 1 N., 118 8 E. The ship'a chronometer had been found at Manila nine days previously to be correct by the Observatory time ball. The position of the Moyane Shoal as given on the British Admiralty Chert, Palawan Island, No. 967, corrected to May 28, 1914, which was used by the master in the navigation of the. vessel, is 8 Oy N. and 118 64
E.
From the evidence of the commander of the United States coast and geodetic survey ship Pathfinder, it appeared that the Moyane Shool is wrongly placed. on the Admiralty Chart, being Botually in 8° 21 N. and 118° 8 E. That position agrees with The that found by the master. Court found that the vessel was navigated with seamanlike oare, and that a proper look out was kept. With regard to the aban- donment of the vessel, the Court considered that Un- doe
pressure was brought to bear on the mister by the re- maining engineer (ficers and orew to induce him to leave the Tassel, he being ill at the time and not having the assistance of his navigating officers who had been sent away in the boats. The Court thereforo exonerated the
