Royal Johore Tin. The annual general meeting of the Royal Jobore Tin Mining Co., | Ltd., was held last week in Sing- apere. The Chairman, Mr. G. A. Derrick, proposing the adoptien of the report and accounts,
explained that the er mpany's pro- perly was sub-leused to certam iributera rnd on the result cf. their working entirely depoaded the profits that came to the com- pany. The result of their working, so far as quantity was concerned, had not been at all unsatisfactcry, there being 500 picule to set agaicet 24 1 for the previous year. Unfortunately, tia prices had been against them throughout the year and, instead of making out of their royalties a sum sufficient to enable them to pay a moderate! dividend, the mount bad jas fallen abort of that and there would be nothing to do but to carry forward to the next year! the amount now remaining as the balame of profit and loss account, after making due provision for Buch directors' fees se they, would be asked to vote. At the meeting last year it was stated that if the next year's working did not prevo more satisfetcry then stopsshould be taken to consider the position of the acmpany and the wisdom of going cn as they were cr winding up. He thought that it would be a mistake to wind up at the tre Eent juncture becanso now they were getting prices they would, if the cut-turn for the current year should prove to be such as the out turn for the past year, be able to pay a dividend. So long as the returns approximated 500 picule and they were getting any thing like a decent price, a divi- deod could be paid regularly, The report and accounts were adopted, Mr. Hay seconding the chairman's mction. A Eum of $500 was voted as remuneration for the directors on the proposal of Mr. Hay eoconded by Mr. Lim Chweo Tong. Mr. Anthony WAS re-elected a, director and Messrs. Evatt and Uo. re-appointed auditors,
Electrical Apparatus: Siam. The Siam Electricity Company
· Ltd., sintes the US. Vice-Consul- ; General at Bangkok, bad, until recently, the only light and power plant in Sism, and for 1913 showed gross earnings of $474,172. The Bangkok muni- cipal power station began opera- tion in the early part of 1914 Both of there stations use 3-phase, 50-cycle current. The telegraph and telephone systems are owned and operated by the Government. Electrical materials and apparatus are not manufactured in Siam, hence materials for renewals and extensions of all olectrical) exterprises, electric aireet rail. way equipment, lighting fir tures, telephone apparatus, cables, insulators, electric motora, fane, batteries, belle, cooking utensils, aadirone and a variety: of similar goods should be in de- mand, The possibilities of: ex- tending foreign trade in electrical materials and apparatus might be enhanced by arranging for an exhibit of such goode in Bar gkok; also by firma entering into cor respondence with local consumerë as to their requirements, by sub- mitting price lists, end by ap pointing local agents. Agenta should be supplied with samples of materials and prices for sup plies needed by the Government telegraph, telephones, and power station, as all such · gcode ere bought through publio tendera and the time allowed is frequently not sufficient to permit bids to be submitted from foreign firma direct.
