Bank of Upper India, Allahabad, 7th March. --A meeting of the depositora and creditors of the Bink of Upper India took place under the diréc tions of the High Court at Meerut on Friday, Mr. D. Lundile John.' ston, District Judge, presiding, The meeting, which was largely attended, lasted from 10 30.a.m. until 5 in the afternoon. Da positers to the amount of over 67 lakbe, were represented, ciber in person or by proxy. On the main question of whether the scheme for the reanmption of business should be adopted in preference. to going into liquidation, there was an overwhelming majority for acolinuance, 03 lakhs being for this course against 4 for wind- ing up. Of the minority about 3 lakbe consisted of proxies from Allahabad, which were invalidat ed by the non-appearance of the proxy bolder, but in the circumstances the accident did not signify, the large majority fr continuance shows the confidence: of those connected with the tank in its future prospects.
Coconut Cake as Cattle Ford.. From the results of the numer- aus feeding trials.referred to in the Bulletin of the Impsial la- stitute, the following conclusions may be drawn: (1) Coccnut cake forms an excellent foding- stuff for milch cowe, when fed at the rate of 4 lb. to 5-lbe, per head per day. "It tends to prc-| duce a firm bulter, and is thur especially well suited for freding during warm weather, and t counteract the affect of freding Etuff which tend to give a wit butter. The lesults so far a vits- effect on the milk yield la con- cerned appear to be inconclusive, and further trials to elucidate this point are necessary, (2) The cake may be safely fed to fattening catile at the rata" ef│· about 4 lbs. per bend per day, without detriment to the animal or the quality of the meat. (3) The meal is suitablo se o food for pige, but owing to its relatively high price compared with menle usual. ly used for pig feeding, it in doubtful whether it could be e- ployed profitably for this purpose. (4) Walp'regard to the Iceding value of cr couut meal for horses, it has been shown that it can re- place an equal weight of oats in & ration without adversely offcc- ling the animal. When all the factors are taken into account coconut cake is cheaper than linseed or rottensced cakes at the rales prevailing recently, and that the difference in pries per food unit per ton represents on "con- siderable advantage to the faimer | who uses coconut cake in pre#l ference to linseed and undecorti oated cottonseed cakes."
Shanghai Cotton Market, Mr. "A. B. Rosenfeld's Cutton Market Report for the week ending 8th April, 1915, is as follows:-
Obiza Cotton. We have had o very still market during the past week, with prices showing su advance of about Tia. 1.20, the first real reaction during the last couple of weeks. Locally a great deal of nervousness Las been osused by the gradual rice in Mid-Americans, followed by the short commitments from the in- terior marta, in consequence of which the merket has been bullëdi at every favourable opportunity. Whether an abundent supply will follow in sympathy with the ex- this treme advance, witcereed week, still remains a problem to be solved. Should the Farmers still hold aloof for higher prices this will naturally bring about an artificial scarcity which will be the principal measure of the Farmera in custaining the market, in which case few operatore will be willing to take the risk of Beling the other man's properly. What the ultimate effect may be within the next few weeks de- pende solely on the balance of the crop left in the hands of the Far- mors, and from reports to hand there is hardly any likelihood of a famine in Cotton. The general opinion is that there is at least 40 per cent still left in the interior marts; this estimate being con- sidered by many as very conser- Valive. Considering the immediate j future, therefore, it looks sa if present prices will be maintained with every possibility of a further advance" in response to every improvement in the yarn market, and particularly the attitude Spinners will take
