Field Marshal French acknowledges the valuable services of this dialinguiabed corps, so ably organised, trained and commanded by Colonel Farquhar, whose death while superintending trench wurke was a gront lose.

By arrangement with General Foob, the British Cavalry Corps relieved the 9th French Corps in a portion of the French trenches for one month. In deference to a strong desire of the Commander of the Indian Cavalry Corps, arrangements were made whereby the various units of the Indian Cavalry took turna in the trenches and gained valuable experience in trenob warfare. Drafts for the Indian coutingents have much improved lately, and are now quite entisfactory.

The action at St. Eloi on March 14:h centred round a large and outboust of the village.
