Ceyla and Malayo, l'tle or no systematio attempt has been made to plaat elected Parsiabber seed in ttes? countries (Tropial Agriculturist, 1914, 43, 10). In Java many plantations bave been made al- ready, from seed of specially good trees, and the author cites the results obtained with cinchona in Java ts en example of what may be done by attention to solection. A note by the editor of the Tropical Agriculturist slates that a field bas been planted at Peradeniya with seed from the well-known tree at Henarargoda, which has yielded 386 lbs. ol rubber in four year. It is thought in se quarters, with not only the Continent bar the United Statea baving rat ber dimiottled greatly supplies, it is probable the price of Plantation may advance, eape- cially when the umber of motors which aro practically run to death by hard usage on all the battle fronta is confi dered. When re:co is assured there must be a heavy replenish- ing of stacks on the Continent, while the rebuilding" of all the devastated area must also call for large supplies, especially for ele trical fittings. Present prices aro good enough. One of the latest, accounts from " Eye Witness" at the front draws attention to the number of motor vehicles which are now being employed at the front, both on the Eastern and Western frontiers. He also spoke of the vast stack of motor tyres which was accumulating and ne- cessary for the equipment of bese vehicles. At home, the in- creuse in the immércial car is becoming more noticeable.

The Year's Estimates in Siam,

The latent fear for which actual figures are available in 1912-13, when the revenon of the Statel amounted to Tee. 66,877,377, the largest on record. For the car- rent year (1914-15) the Badget estimate is Tos, 68,000,000, and in view of the great caution with which these estimates are framed, the further incresee of two mil. lions now budgetted for in-lo- quent of the financial stability of the ecuntry even in exceptiopał oircumstances. The expenditure not obargeable to revenue is to be compared with Tes. 17,327,504, the budget estimate for the our rent year, and Tos. 10,075,604 in 1912-13, the latest natual figures available. In the current year S much as Ton. 15,997,174 ia put down to Loan Account, but from the look of the figures it would reem that practically the only lean money that will be available. in the coming your will be that for the Southern Line. The country is fortunate in baving a Treasury reserve to fall back on, so that it is not compelled to abandon important public worke that have been taken up in the belief that a loan for anch par poses wanld readily be obtained.
