The evidences of liveliness in the North Sea are welcome relief to those who have wearily follow- ed the monotony of Allied victor- les on the western front and of Austrian holocausta on the Esat but to none will they be more welcome than to the men who bave kept vigil" for so many montbe, patiently waiting for ap opportunity to get at the fleet which never comes. Reports gathered from neutral mer chupt vessels arriving at North Sea ports are to the effect that a lorge German fleet has been seen somewhere off the coast of Norway steaming northwards. Heavy and prolonged firing has been heard and beams of light have swapf the horizon. The raports are meagre and uncertain, but coming from several independent sources, they point to the conclusion that something has been attempted even if, in view of Reuter's later telegram, nothing has been done.
