Billigh shipping ncreased by 21 in number and 157,279 in tonnage, the total number of British vessels to enter being 005 with an aggregate tourage of 2,126,415 tons. Freights to India were again kept at a low rate by keen con petuiun between the Nippon Yusen Kaisha and the Brush Iudja Sisam Navigation Company, but as a whole freight rates remained high until towards the end of the year, when a slight downward teadenoy
