Australian "Assurance.

*

The forty-fifth annual general meeting of members of the National Mutual Life, Asociation of Australia, Limited, was held at Melbourge recently, when Mr. Andrew Newell, chairman of directors, who presided, said in the course of bis address to the members:- Our premium revenue was £10,226 greater than in the previous year, and amounted to 21,068,070, and the revenue frem interest, etc., which amounted to) £404,013, was £38,112 promter. Our total income was £1,173,583, which is £78,338 in excess of the revenue of 1913. Now, when we consider the conditione onder which we bare been, working, especially during the latter part of our financial year, I think we may claim that these figures show most satisfactory progress. The unfavourable conditions have dircctly affected only 'one item of the year's business; the amount of the new policies issued who some £71,000 less than in the previous year, which in this 10- spect contained nur best achieve ment. Sill we insued policies amounting to 23,570,860, and this exceeds by about the same amount of £71,000 the averago Lasiness of the last five yeer. On the expenditure side of the revenue account you will see that the payments to policy. holders were £591,002-£50,017 more than in the previous year. The net result of the year's trans- actions in that, we have added £705,030 to the assurance fund and £5,525 to the investmozt fluctuation fund, or a total ad- dition of £710,555. The a surance fund Dow 28,705,191, and the investment fluctuation fund to £75,012. The not result of the investment of the unds during the year was an addition 10 our revonua £404.702, and this amount is equal to about £4 17. per cent, of the average amount of the REFUT- ance fund during the year. Dur-

the ing

the year baildings which have been in course of construction in Melbourne and Colombo for the association's offices have been practically completed. The build- ing in which we are assembled now provides ample accommoda. *tion for the head office staff, and. there is room for expansion for many years to come. The proeprcle. of transacting alarge new business during the coming year are notat present promising; but this cau only be due to a want of appro ciation of the "Eenefits of life assurance, for nothing can excuse the neglect to make the provisión "that can only be made by a life policy. We can, however, depend upon our officers to obtain a full
