"Hawallan Sugar In the Philippines. Several enger growers of the Lipa district in Batangas prov." ince received from the Pailippine bureau of agriculture cuttings of varieties imported Hawaiian
which were planted near the native canoosa trial. Soncourag- ing were the results of these tools that an extensive plot was arrangTM| ad at the demonstration station of Lipa, by Mr. C. W. Hines, sugor epectation of the bureau of agricul fure, where a quantity of sugar cane will be grown as seed for distribution in that seotion. At the same time further tests will be made to prove the value of the improved varieties and the imper- tance of wider spicing of rows, baltor oultivation, etc. Io these a given nion will be cultivated in the ordinary manuer on the .atution grounda by a native grower, while a similar plot will be planted with improved varie- ties and cultivated by moderaj methods. It has been proved that double be present tonnage of sugar cone may be produced "on many of the haciendis by the usb of improved varieties and modern methods.—Cablenews.
