Brunner Mond's Dividend, The interim dividend at the rate of 20 per cent, per annum'; 'just declared by the Directors of Brunner Mond and Company compares with an interim dia tribution for last year at the rate of 25 per cent, Thore is, how- ever, no reason for the share- holders to be apprehensive that the war bos adversely affected the business, because it is stated that; the profits have been well main- tained, aud the reduction in dividend is simply a precaution- ary measure owing to the prezent
disturbed financial position. In a letter from the Company it was stated that a month after the war starred the output of the Company increased to the highest figure it had ever reached.
U.S. Coal Movement Heavy. The shipments of anthracite coal from the United States in October were 8,644,478 tone, the largest monthly output, with one exception, and 308,282 tona shead of the heavy shipments in Octo- ber, 1913. The shipments for ten months ending October 31 were 56,712,057 tons as compared with 57,620,079 tona.in the same period of 1912, a decrease of 908,022 tone. The shipments this year are now not far below those of 1913, and if the producing ccm. panier continue to mine coal as they have in the last two mouths, in November and December the 1913 output will be considerably exceeded. In fact, the same aut- put in the next two months as in 1913 would produce almost ex- actly the tonnaga of that year."
World's Petroleum Production.
The statistical report upon the world's crude oil production dar. ing 1913, compiled by Mr. Devid T. Day, is just published. The petroleum industry of the world has a.ade marked headway during this period. In 1907 the total production of crude oil was only 283,000,000 barrels, while it amounted to 380,000,000 barrels in 1913. The advance of the United States bas been the feature, for the expansion of the crude oil production during seven years has been little less than by 100, 000,000 barrels. Of last year's output the United States pro- duced approximately 65 per cent.. and Russia comes second, and Mexico third.
· Russo-Mongolian Bank, Some time ago i, wan arranged that the head office of the pro- pored Russo-Mongolian Bank should be opened at Kulan this month. The Manchuria Daily Netes states that the site for the new building for the head office has been leased at a splendid location at Kulun, and the per Ronnel of the Bank has been nearly completely organised with Russians who are thoroughly.com | varsant with Mongolian affairs and aleo Russo-Mongolian trade. Other branch offices are to be opsued at all trade centres of im- portance in Outer Mongolia. The capital of the now Bank ja farnished jointly by the Russian Government and a certain private bank of the foremost influence in Russis. It is tostart with a capital of Bls. 1,000,000. It was di. plomatically arranged that "this" Bank should be authorized to issue notes. Mongolian currencies may be minted in Russia and bank notes may boissued against the specie reserve, These coins, as well as notes, are put at par with the Russian rouble, and thus any possibility of a depreciation is precluded. In addition, the now Bank is empowered to advance, kana on the security of "real estate, to conduct warehous- ing business and isane warrants nad instruments of pledge, to carryon insurance and commission businesses, and ale to engage in trade actually. The Financo Office, Petrograd, has taken the precaution to deny the private bank, which is in partnership with the Government in this banking enterprise, the right to transfer to a third party any of the privileges, acquired by the now Bank.
