Further Capture by Russians.

The communique continues:-We carried Vorokhta, in Bako- vins, and defeated an attempted offensive at Kiolibaba, making prisoners.

German Works Demolished.

A Surprise Attack.

We captured, by a surprise attack, and installed ourselves in, three of the enemy's posts north-west of Beausejour.

We carried 150 metres of German trenches in the forest of Apremont, south-east of Bt. Mibiel, and repulsed a counter-attack.

Artillery Duels.

There have been artillery duels from the sea to the Lys and also south of the Sɔmms, and on the Aisne, where we silenced the enemy's batteries.

North of Maseiges our artillery had the advantage. There is no change in Argonne.

The Attack on the Norfolk Coast.

Several Zeppelins flew over the English coast during the night, dropping bombe at King's yan, Yarmouth and Fandring. hem. Four persons were killed but the damage was unimportant.

Allies Capture Four Avlators-A Confirmation. (Official Telegram from French Government, via Peking). Peking, Jan. 22, 9.30 p.m. On the 18th, two German aeroplanes landed in the French lines between St. Menehould and Bar le Duc, with apparatus intact: the four aviators were made prisoners.

Allies' Progress,

A violent action took place at La Boisselle, where the Germans succeeded in setting fire to a group of houses. More Positions Re-taken by Allies,

Russians Capture Many Prisoners.

It is reported from Petrograd that a despatch from the Russian army in the Caucaans states that there wae a series of combats in the regions of Asalik, Lavsor and Kyagani on the 19th with the Turkish rearguards, the remnants of whom are reresting preci pitately.

Turkish Merchantmen Suak.

A destroyer has sunk twelve Turkish merchantmen near Arkhave.

Britain's` Stendy Trade.

(Official Telegram from the British Foreign Offiss.) The employment returns for December, 1914, show that inter- raption of trade caused by the war is being rapidly overcome, Trades affected by war contracts continued vary basy and worked considerable overtime. Cutton showed great improvement, and an upward movement was also shown by other textile trades, as well as the coal and iron industries.

Trade Unions, with a net membership of over 900,000, show the percentage of unemployed as 2,5 as compared with 2.0 at the and of November and 2.6 at the end of Decomber, 1913.

The percentage of unemployment among trades where insur ance is compulsory was 3.3 compared with 3.7 at the end of Nov ember, and 4.0 at the end of December, 1913,

Trade bad, therefore, after a temporary deoline owing to the war, reached the level of 1913 in almost all cases, and in certain industries was teh above normal.

The Battle of the Wood..
