A Turkish communique asserts that Ardaban has been captured after a sanguinary battle.

[Ardahan is a village of about thrae baniret houses in the portion of Turkish Armenis coded in 1878 to Russia. It is 35 miles

In the Nieuport region the Germans bombarded St. Georges without resalt. In the Albert and Roye regions, also on the Aisue, artillery fighting prevailed. The enemy gained about 50 metres in the La Gracie wood, but the French troops oualer attacked immed iately.

The Germans delivered, between the Meuse and the Moselle, on the night of the 30th and the morning of the 31st, six very violat attacks in order to again take trendhes previously conquered by the French troops. Allies Reduce the Distance to Berlin.

A Paris official communique states:- We maintained to the north of the Lys all the positions we had recently won. The enemy only displayed activity in the Zonnebeke district, where there was a violent bombardment.

There was almost complete quiet from the Lys to Arras. An artillery engagement took place in the Albert and Roye Our infantry progressed 600 metres in La Boiselle. Sharp artillery engagements were fought from the Oise to the Mouse, and we made 350 metres progress at Perthes-leg-Harlas.

There were infantry engagements at Beausejour, where we in- fflicted heavy losses on the enemy,

Great activity was displayed at Bis de la Grurie, where the Germans made two unsuccessful attacks. There was also artillery activity on the heights of the Mouse, and we gained some ground to the north-east of Troyon and Bois-le-Pretre. We occupied one of the enemy's trenches in the Vosges, noor Cellss-sar-Plain.

There were artillery engagements at Bande Sapt and in the valley of Fave.

We bombarded a German train at Altkirch railway station and did some destruction to the railway line between Drapach and Dierspach.

Speaking generally, an appreciable relaxation fe noticeable in our cffensive, which mast be attributed to the incessant rains and soaking soil, which are everywhere rendering operations almost impossible.

Jan. 2, 5.25 p.m. The Paris comunique states that the enemy delivered numerous attacks; all these were repulsed.

A most violent artillery engagement took place to the north of the Lys, particularly over the danes near Nieuport and Zonnebeke. The enemy has discontioned his counter-attacks against St. Georges and all our gaine have been maintained.

There have been artillery duels throughout the whole regions of Arrae, Albert and Roye.
