By the end of July the people of Ireland were on the brink of civil War. Then, like a bomb abell, events on the Continent arising out of the assassination of. the Archduke Ferdinand of A06- tria and his Consort at Serajevo, Bosnia, culminated in Austria- Hungary declaring war against Servia, to whose support came Russia, Thereupon Germany found an excase for declaring war sgainst Russia with the knowledge that this involved the interven- tion of France, Germany's viola- tion of the neutrality of Belgium
