Mining In Kores.

An interesting sidelight on how the war is affecting mining in the East is contained in the return of the Oriental Ooo-) solidated, which is an American concern, sponsored in Great Britain by the Rand Mines group, It is stated, says the Financier, that although the war is having no serious, effect on work, the naval operations in the Eastern seas have interfered with ship ping, and that, in consequence, cao shipment of dynamite and two shipments of als for the compony are held up in neutral porte pending a

oboace of

can-

transhipment. Fortunately tho company is well stooked with explosives, and the rails difficulty can be got over by taking raila from drifts where they 000 be epared. Quite a lot of supplies ordered from Europe have bad to be called and replaced from America. All local mining supplies, it ap peare, have advanced in price, inclading cyanide, which has risen from 15c." to 503. per lb., but bere again the company is lucky in being well provided, and. will therefore act be compelled to buy much at war prices. It is Blated that the labour market ie good, and should continue so as long as there are no large military operations in Maccharia, where Koreans would no doubt be used as transport coolies. For August the company recovered bullion to the value of $110 210.11 from a tonnage of 27,081, which is be- low the average, owing to raine having "interfered with operations.
