We can imagine how greatly the veteran Hero of Kandabar and of Pretoria must have regretted that the infirmities of age debarred him from more sative participation in the war, but he has at least had a true soldier's satisfaction in dying practically co the field of action: and the circumstances of his death strike the popular imagination as a not quitting termination to a brilliant military career.
