GENERAL NEWS,

Radium Ore Supplies, With the prominence given to the subject of rutium, some interest attaches to a brief report by Mr. Edgar T. Wherry des- cribing a deposit of carnotite nea Mauch Chunk, Pennsylvania, published as Bulletin 580 II-of the United States "Geological Survey. Carnotite is one of the radium-bearing minerale, and this deposit is believed to have been formed by precipitation from the ground water and can now be seen in process of formn- tica where water trickles out through orneks in the rocke. The deposit is of significan! interest, but the present knowledge ro- garding it is insufficient to warrant any statement, as, to its workability. So far as is now koown the total n ́en covered by the carnolity bearing lenses is very small, the observed outcrops being a ninad to a strip but a few hundred foot in extent,
