Bard was of opinion that this: acount should be kept in good credit. On revenue account the results of the half-year's working were not particularly good. The lusses in receipts, almost entirely in freights, in comparison with the corresponding period of last year, were £4655. There had been, however, a saving in exe penditure of 22,454, the net decrease being thus £2,201. The Burnley Ioom-makers' strike," which lasted from October, 1913, to April last, caused a loss in freight revenue of over £1,000 With regard to work. men's compensation, as to which tho directors had decided to take. their own risks, except in some isolated oases, a material am unt wae being saved annually. The intention was to accumulato a fand, and when this was of ade quate size it would be pos ble to reduce the half-yearly con tributions. The shareholders' would not be surprised to hear that the prospects for the current half year were not good. There was very little doubt that when they came to the next half-yearly meeting they would have a gad tale to tell. The shareholders might rely on it, however, that the directors would do all' in their power to carry on the business in a satisfactory manner. The Case of the Hanametal.

General Managers,
We (the N. C., Daily News) understand that the hearing of the case in connection with the capture of the str. Hanametal will come before the Prize Court at Hongkong early in November. The Hanametal, flying the Ameri dan flag, but commanded by Captain Hannig, supported by Fotber German officere, left
that port by the Japanese fleet, and on her voyage north was stopped by one British man-of-war and after examination of her papers, allowed to proceed on her voyage bat was later captured by H.M.8. Triumph and taken to Weibaiwei, from which port she was convoyed to Hongkong by the Mekong, as a prize of war. We understand that the British Government does not allege that there was any contraband of war on board the Hanametal, when captured, but that she was.com- manded and officered by Germsno, Prior to the outbreak of war. Capt. Lennox, well known and
in command of the Hanametal, popular on the China coast, was
but after her seizure by the Ger- man authorities in Tsingtan, had to remain in that port, together with his officers, who were sup planted temporarily by officers of German nationality. Mr. 8.
