Nieuport is a Belgian town of 4,000 inhabitants, in the province of West Flanders, about 23 miles S.S.W. of Bruges.

Dirmude is a Belgian town of 3,500 inhabitants, also situate in the province of West Flanders. 18 miles 3.3.W. of Bruges.

Ypres in a very old Belgian town, dating from the 9th and 10th centuries, situste 30 miles S.S.W. of Bruges and 8 miles from the French frontier; "pop. 17,000.
