Daring the past few days Penang has gradually seamed s state of bogginess which is daily increasing in intensity. The pest has originated, we understand, in certain stocks of copra which are being carried in the town, and such is the nuisance caused to town dwellers and workers by the visitations that comfort during office hours is becoming a thing almost beyond the pale of possibility. The proprietors of the nuisance should, we think, be notified that its urgent removal ia necessary. Strails Echo
Sydney 'Change Closed Indefinitely.
A full mesting of members of the Sydney Stock Exchange was held on August 21 to further deliberate on the question of re- opening. Mr. E L. Davis, chair- man, presided.
It was decided, by a unasimona vote, to close the Sydney Stock Exchange till such time as the tension is relieved.
Bettlements are taking place of all outstanding transactions, ne between members of the Stock Exchange, but no ordinary business will be done.
