Cholera in Perak.

A serious outbreak of cholera is reported to have occurred at Langgong. All traffic between Tati and Grit has been stopped and a police cordon is put round the district. It is etated that thoro have been sight or nine deaths and that the diseass is virulent in type. It is supposed to have been brought from Baling.

Malacca's Roads. Mach was heard some, yours ago concerning the shocking condition of the roads of Malacca. According to Mr. L. E. P. Wolfer- stan they have now been improved out of all knowledge. Last year $102,408 were spent on matalling main roads in granite, Two hundred and eighty-throo and a half miles were maintained for $230,000, i..., about $847 a mile. Cost in 1912 was $765. The difference of $82 per mile increase totals $23,000. The principal causes of increased expenditure were that $20,000 more metal was supplied on the roads, and the Bystem of leaving December bills to be paid in January was stopped, This had boom intendunad in 1900, Tis not in accord with general ordere and was ordered to be discontinued, but it entailed for 1013 paying an ext month's bill amounting to $13,000.

"Penang Motor Accident. A somewhat serious motoring accident occurred last week in the vicinity of the Penang Swimming Club at Tanjong Bungah. Two motor cars, one driven by Mr. C. M. Henderson and the other by Mr. E. . Henderson, were in collision, and. considerable damage was done to the former's car which was pitched into the ditch. Happily none of the occupants were injured.

Port Swettenham Rubber, The Port Swettenham Rubber Company's undertaking would seem to be doomed to be the aubject of interminable litigation. Following the protracted dispute with Towkay Loke Yow, ending in the latter's victory before the Privy Council, came the recent case in which a Ohinaman claimed damages in respect of trees on land the owership of which was decided by the Privy Council decision.
