Words fail adequately to express the horror' and detestation which all sane people must feel on reading the details of the atrocions and cold- blooded orime committed in the Capital of Bosnia and Herze govina, in the alleged julerests of
political agitation by a mere youth scarcely of an age to have any political convictions at all. Though he has denied having accomplices, the particulara given- in the telegrams make it certain that the dastardly crime was the" outcome of a conspiracy, and while it is too soon yet to spson- late upon the political conve quences, it is manifestly possible, if not extremely probable that the motive of this fiendish outrage will lead in the first place to grave trouble between Austria and Servia, and there can be no telling where it will end.

A point of great importance is that the provision for automatic stability should not interfere with compleie hand-control when this is necessary. It does not appear that this has always been the CARO fore not been unanimously in previously, and pilote have there

While we No. 1683. defer further reference to this matter pending more information, it may be well to point out that the heading "safe flying," under which such machines are describ ed, does not by any means. represent the case. Inumber of accidente occur from Causes which have nothing to do, with the stability of the machine, For instance, two bad aooideats: bave recently occurred-one from a collision in the air, and one from landing in a fog. The landing difficulty is, in fact, often the most Borions. Other accidents have occurred from the machine · breaking, from the pilot not being in fit health to fly, from trying too steep a descent, &c. In fact, comparatively few accidents have recently occurred which appeared to have been caused directly by the want of stability of the | machine". On the other hand, a really stable machine may be much less tiring to pilot, and therefore, indirectly avoid ac cidents which are caused by want of judgment through nerve strain.
