Ia Honolulu a few years ago an enthusiastic proaoher invoked na old atatuto to prevent boya from playing on Sunday, but the enforcement was so thorough the usual Sunday newspaper did not appear, the tramcare "were stopped; the loading and unload- ing of steamers was prohibited and such a state of affairs was brought about that a special session of the Legislature had to he called to repeal the Sunday observance law of Paritan days. No further example of changed conditions is necessary, and while the more favourol classes have their motora and their golf, their tendis and their bathing parties, it is ridicalous that football players, cricketers and mawlers should be forbidden, if only by custom, to amuse themselves in their own way. By the Holidaye Ordinance of 1912, Sunday was declared to ben "general boliday," and sooner or later some olub or cluba will brave "olo custom by arranging a Sunday cricket. fxtare,and the sconer the better.
