relative to the amalgamation of the P. and O. and B. I. Companies, interviewed by a Times of India representative the acting superin tendent of the P. and O. Company at Bombay said ; "I really do not know any more than you do about the matter. I first heard of it when I read the cable in the newspapers, but I was not sur- prised at the news. I won't say that I knew that amalgamation had been contemplated, but it is quite natural that the two lines should join. We have always. worked on the most friendly terme with the British India Company. We have many. interests in common. "Mr. Burney could not suggest any developments which would arise from the combine.
