HONGKONG WIN IN A POOR COMPETITION,

The Kiangwan links were in fine condition following the recent heavy rains. It was a day of sunshine, tat ä cross wind was blowing. Hongkong failed to keep to the fairway, and it was obvious that the light puzzled them in approaching. The scores were :-

These mines, too, are actually starved to the extent of lack of even a sufficiency of the most simple tools to work them! Little wonder that the annual revenue derived from their out- put is returned at the absurd figure of £10,000!

Native Co-operation. As to any lingering feeling of hostility to foreign enterprises, some of the most solid men in Southern China, backed by numer. ous wealthy native firms of bigh standing in Canton, Hongkong, Singapore, and elsewhere, are about to negotiate for financial co-operation in London in order to secure some of the profitable undertakinge for which there is cow so good an opportunity. This would be highly desirable if only because it would put an end to the practice of German, Japanese, and other foreign firms borrow ing money at a moderate rate in
