Hongkong and Netherlands- India.
The Scoretary of the Chamber of Commerce sends us a copy of a letter received from the Consul General for Netherlands India
on
23rd ult. abolishing the quarantine restrictions imposed on Hongkong by Netherlands India on April 17, 1012, and a copy of a further letter dated 8th instant which rescinds the Order. of 23rd alt, and brings the restric- tions of April 17, 1912, again into operation.

Referring to my communication of 17th April, 1012, No. 404, 1 have the honour to inform you to have received notice from the Netherland-Indian Civil Medical Service that the operations men. tioned in the aforesaid letter and for which the doctor's firm Jordan,, Forsyth, Grone and Aubrey granted certificates, have been abolished and that ships found] to be free of contagious diseases (plague free ships), without proved cases of plague on board and without extraordinary mortality amongst the rate on) board, which have visited the port of Hongkong, declared to be infected with plague, may be admitted immediately to free pratique in the Netherland. Indian ports of the lot, 2nd, and 3rd class, if by a medical in- apection made in these last ports it is proved that thors ships are found to be free of infection and provided that the masters of ships, whore cargo entirely or partly consists of rice and which have been un-ratted and clay lon- ised after taking in their cargo and immediately afore their departure from Hongkong, pre sent at arrival in a Netherland Indian port to the Harbour.. master

to that effect by a doctor or doctor's firm at" Hongkong ap-' pointed by me, which certificates have to be legalised by me or in my name.
Of course every vessel on arrival in a Netherland-India port from Hongkong, declared plague-infected, must fly the quarantine flag.

A case of plague having o0- ourred on board a vessel after arrival in a Netherland-Indian Port from Hongkong the Nether- land-Indian Medical Service bas decided to rescind the Rasolution the contents of which I had the honour to communicate to you in my letter of, 23rd April last, No. 423, and to put into force again the sanitary measures mentioned in my letter of 17th April, 1012 No. 404.

Peking, Received May 9. The salt merchants who are arriving in Peking state that they refuse to accept monetary compensation for the cancellation of the salt permits which is the death blow of a monopoly they have enjoyed for generations.
