New Steamer, On March 14 the Yasaka Maru, 12,000 tone, was successfully launched at the Kawasaki Dook yard, Kobe, where she bas boon built to the order of the Nippon Yusen Kaisha. The Yasaka Maru, which is stated to have been constructed entirely with Japanese materials, is 445ft. in length with a beam of 58ft., and her contract speed is 18 knots. She will be complated by the end of October next, The new ship will be driven by triple-expansion engines, with twin forews.

Canada Maru's Damage, The following is the damage to the O.S.K. ateamer Canada Maru,. which was in collision with the Boston Towboat Company's steamer Hyades in Tacoma har- bour on March 13, tbrco shell plates to renew and four to be removed and faired. The damage was all above the waterline and after temporary repairs the vessel went on to Japan and arrived there on April 15. The Hyades will have to renew six shell plates and remove and fair three.

Glenroy Afire.

The damage to the Glen Line teamer Glenroy, which was lying alongside the wharf at Portland, Oregon, and caught fire when the wharf was burned on March 11, ia more serious than was at first anticipated. The entire port side of the vessel t:came red hot and sixty-five plates were slightly buokled. The topmasts have been burned and the saloon, upper and lower bridges, officers' rooms and engineers' messroom were serious- ly damaged. The boats and all- chronometers and oharts were · destroyed. Nine derricks and the decks fore and aft on the port side were burned and the bridge, house and steering gear damaged. The fire did not get down to the cargo but a large quantity is believed to have been damaged by water. The total damage is estimated at G. $20,000, Practi- cally the whole deck equipment has been destroyed and it was necessary to make derricks to discharge the damaged cargo.
