The forty eight ordinary annual meeting of the shareholders in the China Traders' Insurance Company was held this afternoon in the offices of the Company when Mr. W. L. Patienden pre- sided. There were also present Mosers. J. W. 0. Bonnar," H, A. Seibs, S.. H. Dodwell, J. A: Plummer, and H. P. Holyoak, directors, Mesura. H. O. Gray, I F. Hall, R. H. Whittall, V, L Remedios, A. E. 8. Alves, M. R. Souza, B. M. C. Cunha and the acting secretary, Mr. O, II. P. Hay,

The acting secretary read the notice convening the meeting and the Chairman said :—

Gentlemen: -Before proceed- ing with the busines of the meeting, I wish on behalf of your directors to express the sorrow which they feel that Mr. G. Friesland is no longer with us. He took a great interest in the company's affairs and but for his untimely death would have pre- aided at this meeting.

With your permission I will lake the report, accounts and auditors' report as read."

A comparison of the years 1911. and 1012 shows an increase in the net premiums of the latter, part of which is due to the fall in exchange. There is little altern- tion in the divisible bilance which we propose to deal with as follows:-

JAPAN'S GÉNEROUS REPARATION.

Peking, Received April 18. Mr. Yamiza, the Japanese Minister to Peking, had an interview with Premier Sun P.cchi on Tuesday and stated that, apart from the merits of the case, the Japanese Go- vernment regretted' the Ohaugli incident, in which several Chinese police were short by Japanese soldiers, and will remit $26,000 for the relief of the families of the deceased.

The Premier replied that it was gratifying to the Chinese Government that this long-pending affair had been brought to an amicable settlement

Shanghai, Received, April. 17. Renter's correspondest at Sianfu states that the bri-. gands were defeated at Lichun. Essa on the 12th. inst, by General Chen Pei-shang, commanding 3,000 of the bast Shenai troops.
